Biography

Jim Arrington was born in California in 1932. His childhood was far from carefree: he suffered from asthma, was often sick, and couldn’t run or join in children’s games. His parents and teachers considered him physically weak and even gave him the nickname “Skinny Bones.”

However, everything changed when a 13-year-old Jim wandered into a local drugstore. On the magazine rack, his gaze fell not on comic books, like most boys, but on a bodybuilding magazine. Instead of toys, Jim bought a 25-cent booklet with tips for beginner bodybuilders. All he had were a few old dumbbells and photos of athletes who became his “teachers.” He trained at home, studying poses, exercises, and techniques every day. After just three months, the results surprised even him: the boy had gained 10 pounds. At 15, he weighed 150 pounds—35 pounds more than when he started. His diet is dominated by protein and healthy fats, with moderate carbohydrates. His daily menu consists of eggs, meat, fish, chicken, cheese, vegetables, and plenty of salads. Before competitions, he simply reduces his carbohydrate intake and maintains a slight caloric deficit. He doesn’t follow fad diets or use expensive supplements, except for whey protein. The most important thing, he says, is balance and consistency.

In 2006, Jim took 2nd place at the Excalibur in the Men Masters 60+ category and 4th place at the Junior California Bodybuilding and Figure Championships in the Men Masters 50+ category.

In 2010, Arrington took 3rd place in the Men 70+ category at the Masters National Championships, and in 2009, he became the champion among men 60+ at the Junior California Bodybuilding, Figure, and Bikini Championships. In 2012, he placed 2nd in the Bodybuilding Over 70 category at the NPC Teen, Collegiate, and Masters National Championships, and in 2011, 6th place in the Men’s Bodybuilding 70+ Class. Even without first-place finishes, his performances left a strong impression on judges and spectators. 2013 became another significant milestone in his athletic biography: Arrington won first place in Bodybuilding Masters Overall and first place in Bodybuilding Masters Over 80 at the Masters National Championships. These victories impressed even seasoned experts, as Jim displayed a form worthy of younger athletes. In 2014, he achieved a brilliant victory at the Masters National Championships, taking first place overall and receiving his long-awaited professional card (Pro Card)—the highest distinction for a bodybuilder. That same year, in the Masters Over 70 category, he took third place, confirming his consistency and endurance at a world-class level.
