History of the Beverly Hills area

The history of this area started in 1769. Thus, several hundred years ago, the Spanish pioneer and later the first governor of the state, Gaspar de Portola arrived in the lands of the modern town. This location has been famous for its mild climate and fertile lands since ancient times. The Indian tribes who lived on the territory called it El Rodeo de las Aguas.

In 1838, the governor of the state presented these lands to the soldier’s widow, Maria Rita. The woman decided to build a ranch on the land, which flourished for almost twenty years. However, it was attacked by Indians who began to destroy everything. After these terrible events, the woman survived but decided to sell the ranch. She sold it for four thousand dollars. The new owners were also not very lucky. A severe drought destroyed the harvest and the farm.

Later, the ranch was bought by various owners who had grandiose ideas for these lands but weather conditions and economic crises made their realization impossible.

In 1900, the ranch was purchased by Burton Green along with several partners. The men wanted to find oil in this area. After it became clear that there was no oil on the ranch, Green hired a landscape architect for the location. The area was called Beverly Hills and started to gradually develop. Later, the Beverly Hills Hotel was built in the town, which became the impetus for further development. The hotel was the cultural center of the city and life was always bustling near it.
